adidas and Nigo-helmed masters of reimagined vintage aesthetics Human Made launch their first collaborative project of Autumn/Winter 2020. Under the guiding principle of the future is in the past, two footwear silhouettes and a range of apparel drawn from the extensive archives of both adidas and Nigo’s personal collection offer a timeless simplicity, imbued with a visionary, forward-thinking spirit.

The Tokio Solar HM revamps a true historical gem, 1962’s Tokio. Originally developed in preparation for the Tokyo-hosted 1964 Summer Olympics, the 1962 Tokio featured a leather upper, a thin rubber sole, not altogether removed from the design of track spikes, and the distinguishing feature of an additional flourish, a curved stripe around the shoe’s heel. A simple design by today’s standards, the Tokio was stunningly modern upon its debut.

The Tokio Solar HM keeps the concept of a universally wearable simplicity, and updates with 2020 tech. A Primeknit upper and Boost sole feature details from the original Tokio, like the suede mudguard and heel reinforcing curved stripe branding, with Human Made’s signature heart logo at the heel tying past and present together.
