The brainchild of designer Hardy Blechman, Maharishi has produced its award-winning pacifist military designs since 1994. The roots of Maharishi, and offshoot label MHI, lay in Blechman’s former career in the military surplus clothing trade, which inspired him to take the concept of repurposing to a new level.

Yoshitsuya entered the studio of Utagawa Kuniyoshi, and was considered to be one the Ukiyo-e masters most important studios. Yoshitsuya’s work was known for his great prints of warriors and depiction of legendary animals. Whilst many Ukiyo-e artists worked in a small scale creating woodblock prints Yoshitsuya would work large, often creating triptychs which held great depth and detail.
