By the time N.E.R.D. dropped their debut album In Search Of…, Chad and Pharrell, The Neptunes had already produced hits for Ludacris, Kelis, and Mystikal. They were obviously well on their way to stardom and though In Search Of… didn’t meet that same level of pop success as The Neptunes’ oeuvre, it became a cult classic, the type of album that inspires kids for generations to come, because it’s a brash, in your face melting pot of rap, funk, rock, punk, and r&b. In Search Of… is one of the most important albums recorded this century because while not everybody listened to this album when it came out (peaking at 56 on the Billboard Hot 200), all the right people did.
