The GEL-Lyte III isn’t just an ASICS icon, it’s a stands out as a landmark shoe in the history of sneakers. A departure from the reliable but conservative image that ASICS shoes had at the time, the GEL-Lyte III sought to capture the imagination of a growing sneaker audience constantly on the lookout for the next thrill. The unique split tongue, designed to facilitate comfort by eliminating the shifting during motion that occurs with a standard tongue, and allowing for hands free putting on and taking off, was considered a rule breaking, radical concept.

In addition to being a hit with the public upon its release, the GEL-Lyte III would accumulate more cultural cache, as the canvas for a number of influential collaborative projects during the mid 2000s period when special release shoes were still off the radar of the mainstream public. 

This 30th anniversary edition revives the original mesh with suede overlay construction with a striking black and teal colorway.
