The Uptempo range was originally developed in response to the rise of players like Scottie Pippen, Reggie Miller and Penny Hardaway, among others. Players who were something between the classic “big man” and diminutive guard archetypes. 

Designed to offer an abundance of cushioning in an aerodynamic package, the Uptempo range was responsible for a number of longtime favorites from Nike’s ’90s basketball archive. 

A full-length, Air Max 97 style sole, a mixed upper design featuring wavy, ridged, full grain leather, synthetic leather overlays and a mesh tongue, and a chrome heel plate, rendered in a clean white and green colorway, see 1997’s Air Total Max Uptempo take an especially streamlined approach to this concept. Reissued for the first time in over a decade, the 2020 shoe is a 1-to-1 remake of the original design.
