Zephyr is a Greek mythology derived word for a soft, gentle breeze. Despite this decidedly non-confrontational etymological background, the name Zephyr has popped up throughout sports history. The current Washington Wizards franchise were known as the Zephyrs when they were based in Chicago, and Triple-A baseball teams in Denver and New Orleans went by the name. 

Add to that list, the newest member of the Air Max family, the Air Max Zephyr. While the popularity of Zephyr as a team name is still a mystery, it’s easy to see why this new Air Max silhouette goes by Zephyr: Air, and lots of it. 

This futuristic design sports a tactile mesh upper with both stitched and no-sew overlays, along with a padded collar, but the main event is the Air. A full length 720 unit is supplemented with zonal Air units at the side and tongue, for maximum Air coverage. Dynamic and modern? certainly, but with enough Air cushioning to claim the name Zephyr.
