The special edition and collaborative footwear releases of the early and mid ’00s exert a special grip on the collective imagination of the contemporary sneaker landscape. The culture, as we know it today, was beginning to catch on with a larger audience, but the technology allowing for instantaneous, fingertips access to product hadn’t quite taken shape yet. The result was a lot of memorable shoes with high visibility and limited access. 

One such shoe was a circa 2006 Air Max 1, the “Lemonade.” Part of a 56-shoe Powerwall pack celebrating three decades of Air technology, this Air Max 1 featured a leather and mesh upper, covered in retro 1970s style ‘Air’ logos, with a citrus wedge tongue logo providing the kind of detail that obsessives salivate over years later. 

In 2020, the design is resurrected in all its glory, with the original yellow and lemon tongue label being swapped for a lush, tonal pink colorway and strawberry logo. The addition of strawberry makes everything sweeter, including lemonade.
