Everyone knows the story of the Waffle sole, in which the Bill Bowerman introduced rubber and waffle iron to each other. The Bowerman household lost a breakfast appliance, but the world gained a legendary shoe. That’s why, decades later, the comparatively simple design of the Waffle Racer is still emblematic of Nike’s innovative spirit. 

The new Waffle Racer Crater keeps the simple good looks, but reintroduces a sense of experimentation to this perennial favorite. The familiar sole is constructed with Nike’s recently developed, ultra-cushioned Crater foam and recycled Nike Grind rubber. The laboratory tinkering sensibility is reinforced with a recycled twill and suede upper featuring raw edges and visible contrast stitching.
